Examination Card 2

Task 1. Read the text, translate the last passage into English:

One day a man went to see his doctor and said to him, ‘I’ve swallowed a horse, doctor, and I feel very ill.’

The doctor thought for a few seconds and then said, ‘All right, Mr. Lloyd, I’ll help you. Please lie down on this bed.’

The doctor’s nurse gave the man an injection, the man went to sleep, and the doctor went out quickly to look for a horse in the town. After half an hour he found one, borrowed it and took it into his office, so

when Mr. Lloyd woke up, it was there in front of him.

– Ահա ձին, պարո՛ն Լոյդ,- ասաց բժիշկը,- ես հանել եմ նրան ձեր ստամոքսից և այն այլևս ձեզ չի անհանգստացնի:

Սկզբում պարոն Լոյդը ուրախացավ, բայց հետո կրկին նայեց ձիուն և ասաց.

– Բայց… բժի՛շկ, իմ ձին սպիտակ էր, իսկ այս մեկը շագանակագուն է:

-Here is the horse, mister Llyord-said  the  doctor-I took it from your stomach and it’ll never worry you any more.

At first, mister Lloyd was happy, but then he looked at the horse again and said.

-But…Doctor, my horse was white, but this one is brown.

Task 2. Use the verbs in the brackets in the correct tense form:

  1. He met his wife when he was working  (work) in Brussels
  2. – My father  has gone(go) to the bank. He’ll be back soon.
  3. My students were not listening  (not listen) when I gave the instructions.

Task 1. Read the text, translate the last passage into English:

Miss Green was very fat. She weighed 100 kilos, and she was getting heavier every month, so she went to see her doctor.

He said, ‘You need a diet, Miss Green, and I’ve got a good one here.’ He gave her a small book and said, ‘Read this carefully and eat the things on page 11 every day. Then come back and see me in two weeks’ time.’

Miss Green came again two weeks later, but she wasn’t thinner: she was fatter. The doctor was surprised and said, ‘Are you eating the things on page 11 of the small book?’

Տիկին Գրինը եկավ նորից երկու շաբաթից, բայց նա չէր նիհարել. Նա ավելի էր գերացել: Բժիշկը անակնկալի եկավ և ասաց.

-Արդյոք դու կերել ես այն բաները, որոնք կային 11-րդ էջում այն փոքրիկ գրքի:

-Այո բժիշկ-պատասխանեց նա:

Հաջորդ օրը բժիշկը ճաշի ժամին այցելեց օրիորդ Գրինին: Օրիորդը շատ զարմացավ՝ տեսնելով նրան:

-Օրիո՛րդ Գրին,- ասաց բժիշկը,- ինչո՞ւ եք  կարտոֆիլ և հաց ուտում: Դրանք ձեր դիետայի մեջ չեն մտնում:

-Բայց, բժի՛շկ,- պատասխանեց օրիորդ Գրինը,- ես նախաճաշին եմ հետևել իմ դիետային: Սա իմ ճաշն է:

‘Yes, doctor,’ she answered.

The next day the doctor visited miss Green at lunch time/during the dinner/. Miss Green surprised by seeing him.

-Miss Green-said the doctor- Why are you eating potato and bread. They are not included in your diet.

 -But, doctor-answered miss Green-I followed my diet during breakfast. This is my dinner.

Passive

  1. Letters are delivered by the postman at 8 every day. (deliver)
  2. This bag was found  in the  bus  yesterday(  find)
  3. This dress can not be washed in hot  water  (can not  wash)
  4. Your motorbike hasn’t been repaired yet ( repair)
  5. The message  will be sent tomorrow.( send)

Examination Card 4.

Task 1. Read the text, translate the last passage into English:

Rose left school when she was seventeen years old and went to a college for a year to learn to type. She passed her examinations quite well and then went to look for work. She was still living with her parents. A lot of people were looking for typists at that time, so it was not difficult to find interesting work. Rose went to several offices, and then chose one of them.

It was near her parents’ house. She thought, ‘I’ll walk there every morning. I won’t need to go by  bus.’

She went to the office again and said to the manager, ‘I want to work here, but what will you pay me?’

-Մենք հիմա ձեզ կվճարենք £27,- ասաց կառավարիչը,- իսկ երեք ամիս հետո՝ £30:

Ռոզը մի քանի րոպե մտածեց և ասաց:

-Now we shall pay you £27-said manager- But after three months £30.

Rose thought a few minutes and said.

 -Ok, that’s fine, so, I’ll start work/working/ after /in/three months.

Task 1. Read the text, translate the last passage into English:

Carol Roberts left school when she was seventeen and then thought, ‘What’s going to happen now? I want to marry a nice, young man and have children, but no nice, young men have asked me yet. Will I meet one soon, and will he want to marry me?’

She spoke to her best friend about these questions, and her best friend said.

‘Go and ask a fortune-teller. Perhaps she’ll give you the answers.’’

So Carol went to see a fortune-teller. The fortune-teller said to her, ‘I’ll give you answers to two questions. It’ll cost you five pounds.-Ես կտամ քեզ քո երկու հարցերի պատասխանը: Այդ ամենը կարժենա հինգ ֆունտ:

Քեռոլը զարմացավ: Նա մի փոքր մտածեց, բայց ի վերջո վճարեց գումարը: Նա ասաց բախտագուշակին.

-Այդքանը շատ թանկ չէ՞ ընդամենը երկու հարցի համար:

-Այո, թանկ է,- պատասխանեց բախտագուշակը,- իսկ հիմա, ո՞րն է ձեր երկրորդ հարցը:

 Carol surprised. He thought a little, but in the end payed that money. She said future-teller.

-Is it not very expensive for only two questions.

-Yes, it’s expensive- answered future-teller-And now what is your second question.

Change into passive

  1. She pays a lot of money. A lot of money have been spent.
  2. I draw a picture. –A picture was drawn.
  3. He doesn’t open the book.-The book isn’t opened.
  4. You do not write the letter. –The letter hasn’t been written.
  5. They wear blue shoes.-Blue shoes have been wear.

Examination Card 6.

Task 1. Read the text, translate the last passage into English:

John liked chocolates very much, but his mother never gave him any, because they were bad for his teeth, she thought. But John had a very nice grandfather. The old man loved his grandson very much, and sometimes he brought John chocolates when he came to visit him. Then his mother let him eat them, because she wanted to make the old man happy.

One evening, a few days before John’s seventh birthday, he was saying his prayers in his bedroom before he went to bed. ‘Please, God, he shouted,’ make them give me a big box of chocolates for my birthday on Saturday.’ His mother was in the kitchen, but she heard the small boy shouting and went into his bedroom quickly.

-Ինչու՞ ես բղավում, Ջոն,- հարցրեց մայրիկը որդուն: -Աստված կարող է լսել քեզ անգամ երբ դու ցածրաձայն ես խոսում:

-Գիտեմ,- ժպիտով պատասխանեց խելացի տղան,  -բայց պապիկս մյուս սենյակում է, և նա հնարավոր է՝ չի լսի ինձ:

Why are you shouting, John?- asked mother son.- God can listen you even you are speaking in whisper.

 –I know-answered a smart boy with smile- but grandfather in next room can not to listen.

Direct  / indirect

  1. “He works in a bank” She said

She said, that he works in a bank.

  • “I didn’t go to the party” She told me

She told me, that she didn’t go to the party.

  • “We went out last night” She told me

She told me, that they went out last night.

  • “I was waiting for the bus when he arrived” She told me

She told me, that she was waiting for the bus when he arrived.

  • “Who was that beautiful woman?” She asked me

Task 1. Read the text, translate the last passage into English:

Two friends were camping together. Their names were Jim and Tim. Tim was very lazy. The first evening of their holiday, Jim said to Tim, ‘Here’s some money. Go and buy some meat.’

‘I’m too tired,’ answered Tim. ‘You go.’ So Jim went to buy the meat. When he came back, he said to Tim, ‘Now, here’s the meat. Please cook it.’ But Tim answered, ‘No, I’m not good at cooking. You do it.’ So Jim cooked the meat. Then Jim said to Tim, ‘Cut the bread,’ but Tim answered, ‘I don’t want to,’ so Jim cut the bread.

Task 1. Read the text, translate the last passage into English:

When the Americans were getting ready to send their first men to the moon, an old Irishman was  watching them on television in the bar of a hotel.

There was an Englishman in the bar too, and he said to the Irishman, ‘The Americans are very clever, aren’t they? They’re going to send some men to the moon. It’s a very long way from our world.’

‘Oh, that’s nothing,’ the Irishman answered quickly. ‘The Irish are going to send some men to the sun in a few months’ time. That’s much farther away than the moon, you know.’

Անգլիացին զարմացավ՝ լսելով դա:

An Englishman was surprised`listening that.

-Իհարկե,-ասաց նա,- բայց արևի վրա չափազանց շոգ է մարդկանց համար:

-Of course-he said- But in sun there are too hot for people.

Իռլանդացին ծիծաղեց և պատասխանեց.

Irishman laughed and answered

 -Irishman aren’t stupid, we are going to go there not in afternoon, we are going to go there at night.

Task 1. Read the text, translate the last passage into English:

Dave’s class at school were studying English history, and one day their teacher said to them, ‘Well, boys, on Friday we’re all going to get on a bus and go to Conway. There’s a beautiful castle there, and we’re going to visit it.’ The boys were very happy when they heard this.

‘Now, has anybody got any questions?’ the teacher asked.

‘How old is the castle, sir?’ Dave asked.

‘It’s about seven hundred years old, Dave,’ the teacher answered.

‘What’s the name of the castle, sir?’ another boy asked.

‘Conway Castle,’ the teacher said.

Ուրբաթ օրը տղաները դպրոց եկան ժամը 9-ին և նստեցին ավտոբուս: Նրանք այցելեցին Քոնվեյի ամրոցը և տուն վերադարձան:

On Friday boys came to school at 9 o’clock and sit in bus. They visit castle of Coneway and came back home.

-Դե ի՞նչ,-ասաց Դեյվի մայրիկը նրան, երբ տուն մտավ,- հավանեցի՞ր ամրոցը:

-So what?-Said mother to Dave, when he came home- Do you like castle?

-Ոչ այդքան,- պատասխանեց Դեյվը,- հիմար մարդիկ այն երկաթգծին շատ մոտ են կառուցել:

-Not enogh- answered Dave- Stupid people built that near the railway.

  1. “Where do you want to eat tonight?” She asked

She asked if I want to eat tonight.

  • “I usually drink coffee in the mornings” She said.

She told, that she usually drinks coffee in the mornings.

  1. “Could you give me the glass on the table, please?” She told.

She asked, if I could give her glass on the table.

  1. “Please buy some bread on your way home” She asked

She asked, to buy some bread on my way home.

  1. . “Do you like studying English?” She asked

She asked, if I like studying English.

Examination Card 10.

Task 1. Read the text, translate the last passage into English:

Mr. Day was a teacher at a school in a big city in the north of England. He usually went to France or Germany for a few weeks during his summer holidays, and he spoke French and German quite well.

But one year Mr. Day said to one of his friends, ‘I’m going to have a holiday in Athens. But I don’t speak Greek, so I’ll go to evening classes and have Greek lessons for a month before I go.’

He studied very hard for a month, and then his holidays began and he went to Greece.:

-When he comes back after a few weeks, his friends asks.

Task 2. Use the verbs in the brackets in the correct tense form:

  3. He usually woke (wake)  up at 6 o’clock.
